LEARN
Our junior and learner groups meet every Thursday evening during term-time at St George's Parish Hall.
We can teach you to read music as well as to play an instrument. It's lots of fun, and instrument loan & music is all included in our affordable termly fee.
JUNIOR ACADEMY & JUNIOR BAND
ADULT LEARNER GROUP
Current junior sessions are for children aged 5 to 12.
Children begin in our Junior Academy and then, when they are ready, are given the chance to join the Junior Band.
These sessions are for adult beginners or people who have played before but feel they are too ‘rusty’ to jump straight into the main band. Some people haven’t read music before so need some help with that. For others, it’s more about getting used to brass instruments and the peculiar sounds they make, or about remembering and practising skills they mastered many years (or decades) before.

1/3
All our juniors are given the chance take part in performances at least once a year to show their families how well they are progressing!
New players are always welcome so please get in touch if your child(ren) would like to learn to play with us.
We provide basic tuition and guidance, as well as free instrument and music loan. The aim is to build skills and confidence and to have fun. For the last 10 minutes of the session, the learners sit within the main band to play some easy tunes together. Those who want to stay longer are very welcome, either just to follow along or to play those bits you can. You can go at your own pace.
New Mills Band is genuinely a band for people of all ages and abilities, so if you think you’d like to learn with us, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
