Change At The Top!

At the Band’s AGM in March, we were delighted to welcome some new officers and Committee members, but also sad to mark the retirement of our long standing President, Tom Spires.

A trombone player, Tom is a long-standing legend of the Band, having been a member when some of our current ‘elder statesmen’ were just beginning their musical careers!

As well as playing, he has served in many administrative positions, seeing the Band through some challenging times, and as President for over a decade and a half.

We were honoured to play at Tom’s 90th birthday party a few years ago and present some photos of his time with the Band.

Tom will now be known as our Past President and has been offered Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his exceptional contribution over so many years.

Replacing Tom as President of the Band is Joyce Tyldesley, for many years our Secretary and Band Manager.

Joyce has relentlessly championed and advocated for New Mills Band, through thick and thin, and has played a huge role in organising our activities.

She will also be an Honorary Life Member and we hope we will continue to see lots of her in her new role!
